Local SEO is the highest-ROI, most-neglected marketing channel for Indian SMBs. Most local businesses we onboard haven't even claimed their Google Business Profile properly. Here's the checklist we run through for every new client.
1. Google Business Profile (do this first, always)
- Claim and verify your listing if you haven't already
- Fill every field completely — category, sub-categories, services, attributes
- Add real photos weekly, not just at setup
- Use the Posts feature for offers and updates — most businesses never touch this
2. NAP consistency
Your business name, address, and phone number must match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, JustDial, Sulekha, and any other directory. Even small inconsistencies can hurt local ranking.
3. Local citations and directories
Beyond Google, list your business on JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMart (if B2B). These act as trust signals for local search algorithms.
4. Review strategy
A direct Google review link sent via WhatsApp after a purchase converts far better than a generic request. Aim for a steady trickle of reviews over time.
5. On-page local signals
Your website should mention your city naturally in page titles, headers, and content. A "Chennai" or "T.Nagar" mention in your homepage title tag does more for local search than people expect.
